EARCOS Leadership Conference in Bangkok

Triangle Associates will be at the 53rd Annual EARCOS Leadership Conference in Bangkok, Thailand. Marc Frankel and Abbi DeLessio will be at the conference and are planning a suite of four related sessions:

Becoming Better Partners: Tools for an Effective Board/Head of School Relationship

Great partnerships rarely happen by chance; instead, they emerge from an intentional effort by all parties to pull in the same direction. Using practical and proven tools, we will unpack and demystify strengthening the “arranged marriage” that is the board/head of school relationship. An ideal session for board leaders and heads to attend together—but extremely useful for either to attend alone—we will explore forming a trusting, positive and productive collaboration, apply good practices in managing how the board works with school administrators beyond the head, identify the most salient challenges and opportunities facing your school in this moment, and develop a plan for the work ahead.

October 26, 2023, 2 p.m. - 3:15 p.m., Myanmar II Room

World in Flux: Understanding and Responding to the Present Moment

A global pandemic; worldwide reckoning with systemic prejudice and racial injustice; the Great Resignation, a new Cold War in Asia; a blazing hot war in Europe, and ongoing strife within communities over shifting cultural sensibilities, Amid this years-long raft of sequential and current crises, we will help international school leaders hear the signal in the noise and learn to apply design thinking and scenario planning tools to strategize for likely and preferable futures, including a recalibration of what success looks like at your school. Every institution—and every person—is being changed by this moment in history. Thriving tomorrow begins with making sense of the changes and becoming intentional about finding and seizing opportunities.

October 27, 2023, 11:30 a.m. - 12:45 p.m., Chao Phraya Room

The Gift of Evaluation and Feedback for School Leaders

Boards, heads, and administrators evaluate each other all the time; unfortunately, too much evaluation is informal, anecdotal, and lacking in methodological rigor. In this session, we will answer the questions of how boards should evaluate themselves and their heads of school, how heads should measure their leadership teams, and how those in governance and management can align around a set of criteria for evaluating overall school performance. Having a playbook and set of tools for these evaluations is crucial, and we will share how high-performing boards and administrators engage in this essential but often anxiety-filled work.

Marc Frankel and Abbi DeLessio will be at the conference and are planning a suite of four related sessions:

The international school world enters COVID endemicity facing many of the same challenges as in January 2020 along with a raft of new and intensifying forces.

No Time Like the Present: A Guide for Board Members and School Leaders

Supporting Schools in Asserting Control over Business in an Uncertain World

Scenario planning and strategic forecasting as tools to identify ranges of possible outcomes and impacts, evaluate responses, and manage for best- and worst-case probabilities.

Maximizing Value Added Through Generative Thinking

Generative Thinking drives all other processes by framing problems; determining what needs to be decided before any decision is made; and indicating what areas are worthy of strategy, before any strategic plan is developed. Using today's emergent trends as a lens, this session will allow attendees to actively practice Generative Thinking.
