Roaming the Range or in the Corral?

Kota Kinabalu--Three days of governance training yielded to a day off today (Monday) and a side trip to visit an orangutan rescue center in North Borneo.

International school board members, not unlike their counterparts in U.S. independent schools, have precious little opportunity to engage with governors from other schools within and outside the region. There seems to be a reluctance on the part of some school heads to encourage their board members to "roam outside the corral", as a colleague described it earlier today. That's a shame. To my admittedly open-source way of thinking, this seems to have the effect of limiting the intellectual and generative value of some really smart people.
