Election Day from Afar

Singapore--Today is election day in the United States, with virtually every prediction I have seen calling for a rather lop-sided Republican margin of victory.  It is always interesting and instructive to watch significant events unfold in one's own country while standing well outside its borders.  I detect curiosity around me, but less intense interest than an American might expect given our egocentric view of world affairs.  I am already looking forward to watching the early returns while in Tokyo on Wednesday morning.
