Notes from the Middle East

Ramallah--Back in Palestine with Peter Davidson for another installation of our ongoing work with a dozen private schools in Gaza.  As in the West Bank project two years ago, I will learn more in the next four days than anything I could ever bring to the Gaza school heads.  Nonetheless, I have been looking forward to reconnecting with the schools and am happy to again be in the region.

Things move both fast and slow here.  The temporal scale runs toward millenia as everyone has an acute sense of historical rights and wrongs over a 5,000-year span.  At the same time, events in Palestine's UN bid, and Israel's reaction to it, continue to play out with considerable speed.  Being here is like having a front row seat to both past and present.  Peter and I hope our work with schools here and in Gaza (where we will be this afternoon) gives us contact with the future as well.
