A Herman Trend Alert item about human resource (HR) roles that are likely to be automated within a decade may understate the issue--with advances in artificial intelligence (AI), far more than just the more clerical types of roles are likely to go digital. This article by Elizabeth Kolbert in The New Yorker makes exactly this point. Kolbert quotes Martin Ford, author of Rise of the Robots: Technology and the Threat of a Jobless Future, "A computer doesn’t need to replicate the entire spectrum of your intellectual capability in order to displace you from your job; it only needs to do the specific things you are paid to do." Exactly. Yet more evidence in support of the idea that our children's future will be little like our present.
