A Lesson About Change from Google's Wave

Google recently announced the demise of Wave, its 2009 entry into social media web applications. Users, even the relatively few who signed up for Wave, avoided using it in droves.

This rare failure for Google underscores a crucial point about effecting change or starting a movement: it must be simple to do. Wave was just too complex, requiring too many instructions and too many suggestions about ways to use. Twitter and even text messaging and chat are just simpler.

Make sure your change concepts are either simple and straightforward, or can be broken down into smaller and more easily explainable parts.
