When Strategy is Confounded with Delusion

Saw the absolutely amazing production, War Horse, last evening in London.  Apart from stunning staging, War Horse is a riveting story of World War I as experienced by the more than one million horses involved in the war.

But, almost lost in the larger story was the all-too-common optimism about how quick and easy would be the victory.  It reminds me that fantasy is always better than reality, and in thinking through scenarios everyone from the commander-in-chief to the common citizen tend toward fantasy bordering on delusion.  True, too, about strategizing for the future in our organizations.

To follow will be posts on the cognitive distortions of strategy-making.
