The Mer-Khamis Murder: The Crazies Won This Round

From my friend Hala Nasrallah in Gaza comes word that Juliano Mer-Khamis, an Israeli film figure and activist for Palestinian issues, was murdered on April 4 in the Jenin refugee camp where he founded and led a local theater group (see Haaretz story here).  Mer-Khamis' death is significant beyond film and theater because he was a Jewish Israeli voice for peace with Arab Palestinians, hence his theater in Jenin.  

That he died, apparently, at the hands of extremists from the Palestinian side illustrates vividly the brutal fact that on any given day there are more than enough nutcases on both sides to this conflict.  More to the point, there seems to be no end to the people on both sides that are militating for failure in the peace process. And in this round, the crazies won. Next round ...
