The Long and Short (View) of Truth and Lies

Overheard this afternoon in the Charlotte airport, a guy talking on a cell phone saying, "Hi!  I'm just walking into my house ..."  Really?  And his house sounds just like an airport, replete with security announcements and so forth?

Apart from the humor, this snippet of conversation brings to mind the question of just how much of what we are told by vendors, spouses, children, bosses, and politicians is on the level?  Deception is, in the short run, extremely easy.  Telling the truth is almost always, in the short run, harder.  But, what does it mean that we are all fed (and feed) so much falsity?  No wonder those we try to lead find it so difficult to trust us or anyone else.
