Sign of the Apocalypse (or maybe just a harbinger of the future)

Kevin Carey's piece in Washington Monthly shines a spotlight on a new model of higher education. StraighterLine tweaks the online model to reach an even lower price point than others, one that Carey notes will likely invite competitors intent on remaking the academic financial model.

Traditionalists will likely see this as a sign of the apocalypse, and not without reason, but there's plenty of experimentation going on with alternative ways of delivering curriculum.  All of this means the hegemony of the typical university model is beginning to fracture.
