Leading in a Tough Place

Ramallah--Peter Davidson and I just finished a three-day leadership institute for Palestinian private school heads in Ramallah and Jericho.  While the West Bank is calm at present, creating an evironment where leadership training can be meaningful, all the right ingredients are present in sufficient quantities for problems to erupt at almost any moment. All the more reason why strengthening school leadership makes sense on both sides of the separation wall.

Fascinating how similar the leadership challenges are between the West Bank and independent schools in North America and elsewhere; similarities that abound despite the obvious and numerous differences.  There are never enough resources, good teachers are always hard to find, and bringing about change is never easy.

Just another graphic lesson that what we have in common is just as significant as what divides us.  We extend our thanks to AMIDEAST and USAID for funding this project.
