From the Progressive Schools Summit in Los Angeles

Meeting in L.A. with 25 leaders from progressive schools across the United States.  Interesting conversations about how to explain progressive ed in terms that others easily and quickly grasp.  Lots of conversation about marketing, less in terms of "selling", than in terms of branding or storytelling.  The tone is very much along the lines of Seth Godin's blog post today:

"Marketing is telling a story that sticks, that spreads and that changes the way people act. The story you tell is far more important than the way you tell it. Don't worry so much about being cool, and worry a lot more about resonating your story with my worldview. If you don't have a story, then a great show isn't going to help much."

Too many of us equate marketing with selling, when it really is more about have a story and telling it consistently and clearly.
