Flyover Country Gets Revenge

Donald Trump has been elected president of the United States. However improbably those words seemed just hours ago, people in North America will soon be waking up to the news (assuming they ever went to sleep). I have watched the election returns from Tokyo in real time (daytime here) and noticed something remarkable as the electoral map developed: this election was decided by "flyover country." Yes, the big states mattered, but not as much as those in the middle with anywhere from 10 to 25 electoral votes. See this map from 538.com:538mapThe southeast and midwest tipped the scales in Trump's favor. Amid all the text that will be written about the election in coming days and weeks, this fact should not get lost. Future pollsters, demographers, marketers and politicians take note. Now to figure out what this means for private, independent schools.
