"Embedding" Philosophers in Grade School Classrooms

We have long been a fan of "authentic" learning; that is, learning by doing real work in a discipline or profession, rather than learning about it in abstraction. We are also fans of closer integration between higher education and the elementary/secondary sector. This item in the Chronicle of Higher Education describes a UC - Irvine program to embed philosophy professors into elementary school classrooms as a vehicle for teaching thinking skills to younger students. Exactly the sort of thing we had in mind, only starting with students even younger than we imagined. Bravo!
