Board Meeting Minutes: Finally a Guide!

A frequent question we receive is about the proper form, content, and style for board meeting minutes. While some schools have a professional minute-taker--a board assistant or often the head's assistant--many more have minutes taken by one or another board member. Taking minutes is an acquired skill, but thankfully not one that requires the fabled 10K hours of practice in order to become proficient.Business Training Works, a U.S.-based firm, has a free minute-taking guide available online. They do offer a course in minute preparation for a fee, but the 21 tips in the free guide is a great place to start. Wish this had been available years ago when I served The Wilson School as its secretary and minute-taker.
